Palo Alto ADU

Compact doesn't mean compromised. This detached ADU in central Palo Alto was designed and built to feel like a complete home — not an afterthought. The 680-square-foot structure occupies the rear of a generous lot, positioned to maximize natural light while preserving privacy for both the primary residence and the new unit.

Interior planning focused on spatial efficiency without sacrificing generosity. A raised ceiling in the main living area and a continuous band of clerestory windows create a sense of volume that belies the footprint. The kitchen, though compact, features full-size appliances and the same material quality as the main house.

This project navigated Palo Alto's complex permitting environment from pre-application through certificate of occupancy — a process we managed entirely in-house.
