Los Altos Residence

The Los Altos Residence began as a dated 1970s ranch-style home on a generous lot in the heart of Silicon Valley. The owners — a family of four with a deep appreciation for craft and material quality — wanted a complete transformation that would honor the site's mature oak canopy while creating a home that felt genuinely contemporary.

We stripped the interior to the studs and rebuilt from the ground up, introducing an open-plan kitchen and living area anchored by a twelve-foot island in honed Calacatta marble. The original footprint was preserved, but a new rear addition extends the living space into a sheltered outdoor room that dissolves the boundary between inside and out.

Finish selections were deliberate and restrained: white oak floors throughout, unlacquered brass hardware that will patina naturally, and a primary bath clad entirely in Zellige tile. The result is a home that feels both quietly modern and deeply livable.
